Collections chat: Thursday 21 May

Thursday 21 May

With thanks to patients and staff from Robert Darbishire GP Practice.

Noah's Ark animals, c.1850, painted wood, 1922.486.
Joseph Edward Southall, The Old Seaport, 1919-25, tempera on canvas, 1925.277.
Objects chosen by Liz.
1922.486 Tray of 19th century wooden painted Noah's Ark animals.
1925.277 The Old Seaport, painting of a ship coming into a sunny harbour, by Joseph Edward Southall.
There is something curiously levelling about holding these conversations on Zoom. With each of us contained in our own little screen boxes, at home in living rooms, studies or bedrooms, it's harder to tell who is 'staff' and who is 'visitor'. We are all participants, balancing the discomfort of enforced technology with the comfort of being in our own personal space. It feels quite different.
Diagram of notes from the conversation responding to these two objects.
