Platt Hall is home to a collection of several hundred dolls, many of which were given by collector Mary Greg. Mrs Greg had no children of her own, but during the 1910s and 1920s collected childhood objects including dolls, dolls' houses and other games and toys. Most of these are now in Manchester's collection.
She was also a keen supporter of the Bethnal Green Museum in London through her friendship with its curator Arthur Sabin. She supported Sabin in collecting childhood objects through gifts and introductions, helping transform the museum into the first dedicated Museum of Childhood. Sophia, Lucy and Jane were chosen for our Collections Chat on 25 March 2021.
