Health & wellbeing
A partnership programme with Better Health MCR to support people local to the Hall to live healthier and happier lives.

Our partnership with primary care provider Better Health MCR supports people to manage their own health through group activities and individual support. Managed by our Health & Wellbeing Coach, the programme helps patients set their own wellbeing goals through 1-1 coaching, provides a range of activities across Platt Hall and the local Robert Darbishire GP Practice, and supports people to engage with wider activities in the neighbourhood.
The programme
These programmes are for patients of Better Health MCR (The Robert Darbishire and The Whitswood Practice).
For more information, please email Arthur Simons, Health and Wellbeing Coach.

HEALTH COACHING
Arthur Simons, our Health and Wellbeing Coach, provides 1-1 coaching sessions across The Robert Darbishire Practice (Better Health MCR) and Platt Hall. A health coach supports people to self-manage their health through setting personalised, achievable goals, and tracks their progress and challenges along the way.
This approach can help people focus on what’s important to them and increase motivation and accountability towards positive change. Health coaching can be effective in improving health outcomes for people living with a variety of long-term conditions, or in preventing new ones developing.
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE COURSES
This six-week course is designed to enhance people's confidence, knowledge and skills in managing their health. It includes group discussion, interactive information sessions with clinicians, creative activities with artists, cooking workshops with professional chefs, and handling health-related objects.
The course emphasises diverse perspectives and confidence building, forming supportive groups to develop strategies for overcoming challenges. Afterwards, participants can stay connected with Platt Hall through other wellbeing programmes and volunteering opportunities.

MONDAY CLUB
A weekly creative, active and social programme for health and wellbeing. A different activity each week to help people connect with each other in the local community. Sessions include group walks, art and cooking workshops, trips to cultural sites and green spaces.
RDP GARDENING CLUB
A weekly gardening club in the community garden at the front of The Robert Darbishire Practice. A great way to be more active, and spend time in nature with other people whilst helping improve green space in the neighbourhood.
“We recognise the powerful impact that art can have on well-being. Platt Hall provides opportunities for engagement, reflection, and connection; to learn about each other, and to create much needed local attachment. We have already been privileged to hear moving personal accounts from residents who have experienced improvements in their own health from engagement with the Hall.
We hope that our partnership work will add to the evolving evidence on arts, health and well-being and that it will help to develop the case that we should support people to create their own health.”

The course has helped me realise that I’m not alone. Lots of people are also trying. You meet people out who are going through a similar thing but you don’t always discuss health with them so it’s nice to have that space.
I’m missing the course now it’s ended, but I’ve stopped sugar at home, I’ve started playing rounders on a Tuesday evening in Platt Fields Park and I’ve joined a yoga class in the city centre."
