Collections
The collections are a key part of what makes Platt Hall unique. The building’s history as an art gallery and museum leaves a legacy of several thousand artworks and objects, including dress and textiles, homecrafts and handcrafts, domestic and childhood objects, and archives relating to the history of the Hall. As part of Manchester Art Gallery, we also draw on the city’s 50,000-strong art and design collection.
We see the collections as fellow occupants of the Hall and participants in its conversations. They play a part in all our programmes, fostering shared storytelling, new ideas, creative inspiration and social connection.
What people love is a reflection of themselves. So artefacts that reflect lots of different cultures…a range of people. Things that make them feel good about themselves.”
Platt Hall Open Door Consultation, January 2020
