Working it out
Platt Hall Inbetween is all about working things out. Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, we are testing ideas, trialing activities and building relationships. This, we hope, will provide a solid foundation for the Hall's longer term development and future sustainability.
We're using an approach based on Participatory Action Research (PAR). This involves researchers and participants working together to solve a problem by trying things out, reflecting on them, and making change.

It is an iterative cycle of research, action and reflection, and seeks to ‘liberate’ participants to have a greater awareness of their situation in order to take action." |
This is an evolving and responsive process. It's about asking questions, creating a space in which to listen, working with what we've got, and building from the ground up. Our aim is to generate:
This section of the site documents the projects, programmes and partnerships we are building.
It also shares our findings from evaluating the process at regular stages as we go along.
With limited resources, and working within the constraints of the building and conservation work also taking place in the Hall, there are limits on what we can do. So, in order to be as transparent as possible and to make sure that everything we do contributes towards securing the longer term future of the Hall, we've developed a set of Working Principles to guide decision-making.
- a strong local network of people and organisations invested in the Hall's long term future
- a clear understanding of how the Hall and its collections can support local need, skill and interest
- a good body of evidence that will lever further funding to make lasting change possible
